Description: To create sitting constructions based on specific topography. The Sofa/Landscape is flexible concerning scale, material and site reference. People can pick their favourite place and take it home in a scale suited their housing situation.
Method: The sketch-up models shown here, made in green felt, are based on locations in Nordmarka, the forest close to Oslo. The selections are made according to topographies that seems ergonomically pleasant to take seat in. We are in dialogue with Ultimat (see below) regarding the modification of their insulation mats for our use. The piece can be built in a variety of materials, from the above mentioned textile waste product to natural materials such as stone, grass, wood.
Background: Every year the Norwegian population produces 100 000 tonnes of textile waste that en up in landfills. By 2009 it will no longer be permitted to trash clothes in regular waste bins. Our intention is to find a use for this unwanted textile material and to create a new product from it. In our research we came upon the Norwegian company Ultimat that has developed insulation mats made from textile waste. The product has received international attention for being an environmentally friendly alternative to excisting products like Rockwool or Glava.
